This tour is operated by a certified team with deep experience in Pacific sportfishing. All boat crew hold appropriate safety credentials and are familiar with Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) regulations.
What You Need to Bring
Before departure, all guests must ensure they meet the following requirements:
- Fishing License: Bring a printed copy of your valid tidal waters sport fishing license. Digital copies are not accepted by enforcement officers.
No license? We can purchase and print it for you.
- Waiver: A Release of Liability Waiver must be signed before launch.
- Food and Water: Bring your own lunch, snacks, and water. No meals are provided on board.
- Bag: Pack light. A small backpack is sufficient.
- Seasickness Prevention: Mild motion discomfort is possible. Take precautions if needed.
- Strict No Alcohol Policy: No alcoholic beverages are permitted at any time.
- No Bananas: In line with longstanding maritime superstition, bananas are not allowed aboard.
Itinerary for Full-Day Salmon Fishing Adventure
9:00 AM – Meet and Launch
Arrive at Vanier Park Public Boat Launch.
Complete waivers and verify licenses.
Safety briefing and orientation.
Load rods, bait, tackle, and lifejackets.
9:45 AM – Trolling Toward Bowen Island
Head northwest toward Tunstall Bay and Cowan Point.
Troll through known salmon-producing waters, including:
The Hump (off West Vancouver)
Cowan Point
Tunstall Bay
Fishing depth: 50 to 120 feet using anchovies, spoons, or hoochies on downriggers.
12:00 PM – Prime Fishing Zone
Fish in deeper water near 49°19.550’N 123°22.194’W.
Focus on bait balls, tide changes, and seabird activity.
Typical catch: Chinook and Coho, subject to size and seasonal regulations.
2:00 PM – Southbound Return and Secondary Trolling
Navigate south toward English Bay.
Continue trolling at productive stops along the route.
Begin preparing gear and catch logs.
3:00 PM – Optional Bonus Fishing
Last chance fishing near Bell Buoy or the QA Marker.
These locations are reliable spots for late-day Chinook.
4:00 PM – Dock and Wrap-Up
Return to Vanier Park.
Crew cleans and bags fish.
